Washoe Golf Course
In the onset of World War I in the United States, the first golf course in Reno, Nevada opened. Washoe County Golf Course was a members-only club which was originally set by Mrs. Gourtley Dunn Webb. She was an English golf teacher who came from a family of golfers. During her time, she was the only woman professional golfer in the United States. Shortly after the depression, the course was opened in the public and in 1946 the first professional tournament was held. One of the course champions is the legendary Ben Hogan.
Washoe Golf Course, the oldest golf course had used “The Shoe” as its nickname. Over the decades of providing a playable course, it was able to meet every golfer’s needs from the facilities to the helpful staffs. The course layout has small greens with bunkers and water hazards are placed strategically throughout the course while the tree-lined fairways are flat and wide. Golfers can play at the course any time of the year as it uses an elaborate sprinkler system to maintain a good-shaped green. The 18-hole golf course has a USGA rating of 70.6, slope rating of 129 and a yardage of 6,695 from the longest tees.
The friendly PGA Professionals are always ready to help the novice and expert golfers with individual or group instruction. Golfers who will avail the different practice facilities such as driving range, putting green and chipping area with practice bunker will also be assisted by professionals in the course.
The Pro Shop is well-stocked with merchandise of the latest fashion apparel for both men and women in competitive prices. Golfers can also request the staffs to order a specific golf product that are not available in the pro shop. Repair services as well as custom club fitting are also offered.
